Smart & Functional Polished Concrete

Did you know polished concrete can look as beautiful as tiled floors? At L.L Projects, we turn dull, grey cement into a floor with an attractive and durable finish.

Polished concrete floors are stylish and extremely tough, but that’s not the end of their appeal.

  • A cost-effective choice. If your slab is in good condition, you might be pleasantly surprised how cost-effective polished concrete floors are compared to floor & wall tiling.
  • The low maintenance option. Polished concrete simply requires sweeping and mopping to keep its shine.
  • Great for allergy sufferers. Polished concrete floors don’t hold dust, dirt or bacteria like other flooring types such as carpet.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why choose a polished concrete floor?

Polished concrete floors have gained popularity because they are cost-effective, durable, scratch resistant, low maintenance & easy to clean.

  • Can an old slab be polished?

Yes, in most cases an old slab can be polished. However, as the slab was not poured with the intention of being polished, we are unable to completely guarantee the outcome. It’s recommended a ‘test patch’ be done first.

  • Are there any areas of a house that shouldn’t be polished?

We generally don’t recommend polished concrete in showers or bathrooms as they are constantly wet and the sealer wears too quickly.

  • I’m building a new home and am considering polished concrete, what now?

For the best result, speak with your builder and either they or you should contact us prior to your slab being poured to ensure it is poured within the specifications for polished concrete.

  • When is the best time during a house build to polish a concrete floor?

We prefer to polish the concrete just after the slab has been poured, prior to frames going up to grind right to the edge of the slab. However, it is then considered a finished floor and it is imperative that you or your builder protect it appropriately throughout the entire build. We recommend using the Honcho Commercial System or Ram Board, ensuring that no tape or adhesive is used on the floor and that protective flooring does not get wet or damp. Never cover with plastic, as it causes the concrete to sweat. Additionally, if the slab is unable to be polished just after it’s poured it can be completed at any stage of the build. We will recommend it’s protected like a finished floor.

  • What type of polished concrete floors do you offer?

We offer Superfloor polished concrete, burnished concrete, and Grind & Seal.

Superfloor polished concrete is high gloss polished concrete, exposing stone/aggregate to your desired look. The most asked-for look is 'salt & pepper' exposure. Burnished Concrete is basically a clean and seal, and while it is the cheapest option it does not have the durability of polished concrete & is very heavily reliant on the skill of the concreter. A normal concrete slab cannot be burnished. It needs to have been properly poured and prepared by an experienced concreter. Grind & Seal is a popular finish for outdoor areas as it can be completed to produce a non-slip finish.
